Driving FAQ
The next club better driving (track) day will be held on the afternoon
April 29th. We ask that all drivers read the following-
Important Information For All Drivers
-
Make sure
that you remember to bring both your drivers licence and club
membership card. No drivers will be allowed out on track without
these two documents.
 To increase
safety and enjoyment for all involved, there will be no new membership
applications processed on the day. Nor will membership renewals
be processed on the day. If your membership has lapsed or if you
want to join then you must get it processed in advance. This will
also speed up the initial administration.
-
All drivers
must attend a briefing followed by a two lap drive of the circuit
(ducks and drakes).
-
Drivers
are advised to monitor the circuit marshals at all times. If a
driver fails to heed the advice of the flag marshal then they may be black flagged.
Drivers
should be using their mirrors throughout each session. If a driver
is percieved by club officials or the circuit
marshals to be holding up traffic then they will be blue
flagged by the marshals informing them that faster cars are approaching
them and the driver is to allow them to pass.
Drivers
are not to stop on a live track.
If a driver is
percieved by club officials or the circuit marshals as not keeping
an appropriate speed for the session then they will be requested
to change to a slower group.
If a driver
places themselves or others in danger they will be sent home without
further warning.
If you notice
any infringements of the rules then contact one of the club officials
or one of the marshals and steps will be taken.

Event Rules
-
All drivers
shall hold a current, valid, full drivers licence – presentable
at sign-in.
-
All drivers and passengers must be over 18.
-
Only members of the BMW Car Club GB or any other BCE (BMW Club Europa)
affiliated club shall be allowed drive on track. Membership
cards are required on the day.
-
All vehicles shall be roadworthy and may be inspected at any time. A
valid NCT/MOT is normally sufficient.
- The event shall be
run on the "National" 1.2-mile circuit due to increased
costs for the circuit.
-
All cars, drivers and passengers shall be presented at a club sign-in.
You will be given a ticket for the briefing.
-
Drivers must attend the Mondello introductory briefing after which
you will be given a wristband. This band will allow a driver on
track. Passengers will also be given bands but do not need to
attend the briefing.
The event
is for members to improve their driving skills. No racing shall
be tolerated. Nothing shall be timed or against the clock. Designated
overtaking points/sides in conjunction with a blue flag system
will be used. Racing will be black flagged. Safety and respect
for other drivers and the rules of the day will be enforced by
Mondello Park marshals who may black flag a driver and/or request
removal from the event. No fees shall be refunded to anyone removed
from the event.
Normal
course rules, flagging, marshal controls and emergency services
shall be provided by Mondello Park. These shall be outlined nearer
the time and at the introductory briefing.
-
Helmets must be worn on track.
-
Only BMW cars are allowed on track.
- Seat
belts, where fitted, must be worn on track.
- Convertibles and
other vehicles with removable roofs shall have all roofwork, roll
bars and/or panels in situ.
- The deposit shall
guarantee a place at the track day up until the maximum number
of cars are reached, on a first come first served basis. Any further
(e.g. due to cancellations) places shall be also allocated on
a first come first served basis.
- There will be no
new memberships processed on the day. This is to discourage people
joining just to use the track.
- Swaps or substitutions
can be made in writing in advance to the event organisers without
penalty.
-
A further fee may be due in addition to the deposit. The final fee shall
be calculated approximately 3 weeks before the event. Those with
confirmed bookings shall be advised of the additional charge which
shall be payable in full before being allowed on track. The greater
the attendance, the smaller the cost.
- Where there are an
excess of funds, they shall be carried forward to the next club
event or track day.
- Payments must be
made in Euro or Sterling.
- Where
deposits are to be returned due to overbooking, they will be returned
as soon as possible. If a place subsequently becomes available
then first refusal will be offered according to the first come-first
served basis.
-
Vehicles are driven entirely at their owners risk. A club indemnity and
a Mondello agreement shall be required to be signed at sign-in
by both drivers and passengers.
-
Own car risks are entirely carried by drivers. It is possible that existing
comprehensive policies will be sufficient as the track day may
not be considered applicable under clauses related to “Racing,
hill climbs, etc.” – drivers should check with their insurance
company for clarification.
- The
club shall provide third party insurance cover for club members.
- At this stage, sessions
will be run for approximately 10-12 minutes.
- Within the time allocated
to a particular class, a driver may exit and re-enter (when appropriate)
the track.
- At
this stage, sessions will be split into (1) Beginners and/or low
powered cars (2) Intermediate and/or medium powered cars (3) Advanced
and/or high power cars.
- These
classes shall be allocated by event organisers and may be changed
on or during the day.
- No guarantee can
be given of inclusion in any particular class until the event
day.
- It
is planned to have ~15 cars maximum in each class.
- Access to track shall
be strictly controlled by Mondello officials.
- It is hoped that
the paddock with some garages shall be available for use and will
have to be shared.
- The track is available
from 14:00 to 18:00. Punctual attendance will maximise the time
for everyone.
- Sign-in shall commence
at 13:00. Attendance after 13:30 may delay your access to the
track.
- We hope to issue
some car and driver tips in advance to help in preparation for
the event.
- All accidents and
damage to property shall be reported to both the club and Mondello.
-
The BMW Car Club GB Ltd. and Mondello Park Ltd. are not liable for any
loss whatsoever, consequential or otherwise, to vehicular, personal
